The Investigative Process with Allergies
The illness of a child could properly be described as an allergy, you need a thorough examination. There should always be done thorough examination of children attending physician who cares for the child. The child is sent to all the necessary examinations and laboratory tests to rule out other non-allergic origin diseases. Allergy testing consists of several parts, all of which are equally important.
Allergy testing
History – It is something of a doctor interviewing parents about all important circumstances related to illness. This history is particularly important in allergies because inheritance plays a great importance in allergic diseases.
Testing – it is typical practice for allergy and performed for more than 100 years. Especially skin tests are simple and inexpensive method. And above all it is a very accurate method.
In both cases, there should essentially be a laboratory for allergen, after which the application will take place in the skin or mucosa of allergic reaction to an allergen and antibodies.
Skin tests
The test substances are injected into the skin in many ways, but the essence of each is to puncture the skin. An allergic reaction should occur within a few minutes. It is a bit painful examination, so we had to prepare the patient, in particular as regards small child.
Mucosal tests
Examined allergen is injected directly to the mucous membranes, such as infusing into the nose or eyes and the symptoms of rhinitis or conjunctivitis are observed. This method is not used in children.
Another possibility is the so-called inhalation tests, in terms of inhalation, the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract start irritating. This type of test can only be used in older children or adults. This examination is too labor-intensive and usually requires hospitalization.
Auxiliary laboratory tests – basic examination conducted by a physician, designed to exclude non-allergic type diseases. This basic examination must be accompanied by immunological tests.
